Croatia’s maverick President, Zoran Milanovic holds a commanding lead in the first round of the country’s presidential elections on Sunday. The incumbent President, known for his anti-war position, has received nearly 50% of the votes in a field of 8 candidates.
Dragan Primorac, supported by the ruling Croatian Democratic Union and five other right-leaning parties, is set to finish second with a little over 20% of the vote. The results appear to be a clear rebuke of leftist globalist parties.
The latest polls indicate that Zoran Milanovic is the frontrunner if the two face off in a run-off election on January 12.
Milanovic is Croatia’s fifth president since the first presidential elections were held in 1992 after the country’s independence.
