Romania’s Court of Appeals met for over 6 hours on Monday to hear leading Presidential candidate Călin Georgescu’s challenge to Romania’s constitutional court’s decision to cancel the first round of the election in the aftermath of Georgescu’s upset victory.
Thousands of supporters greeted Călin Georgescu when he exited the Court of Appeals and he addressed the crowd: “I want to thank the Romanians who waited and waited for today’s decision, who stood in the cold, who were patient. After 35 years, I am convinced that justice deserves to exist in Romania. I was astonished to see that none of the defendants had any evidence, none, zero. They declined any procedural clause, so they also decline their presence here. Beyond that, a few days ago, former President Klaus Iohannis himself declared that there is no evidence, there are only suspicions. Therefore, based on everything that was discussed today, the Court decided that, as soon as possible, the verdict will be given, on a date that we will have as soon as possible.”
“We are waiting for a just and precise decision for the dignity and honor of the Romanian people. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything that has happened until today, I thank the Romanian people who are present in such large numbers (…) We have already made history, because the unity of the Romanian people has proven this. I hope for professional justice and not political justice”, Georgescu said.
The court postponed the ruling on the merits because of the case because the magistrates must first address several requests for the recusal of the judge handling this case, Cristina Ardeleanu.
Before the court, Călin Georgescu recalled the parable of the two women in the Bible who claimed to be the mothers of the same child. In order to find out the truth, King Solomon demanded that the baby be cut in two. Then, when the real mother of the baby heard, she jumped like a lioness to defend her child. “35 years ago, over 1,000 young people died for free elections. Please remind me of the judgment of the wisest, King Solomon: Two women and a baby… Solomon said the baby should be killed. And one of the women jumped like a lioness (…) Be the lioness who defends the Romanian people!”
