On Saturday, Romania’s Constitutional Court (CCR) rejected two appeals against the registration of Călin Georgescu’s candidacy in the presidential elections in May. Georgescu submitted his candidacy to the Central Electoral Bureau on Friday, which has not yet made a decision on the registration of his candidacy.
The CCR rejected the appeals as inadmissible. “In the session of March 8, 2025, the Constitutional Court, within the scope of its authority regarding compliance with the procedure for the election of the President of Romania, debated four appeals. Following the deliberations, with unanimous votes, the Constitutional Court rejected the appeals as inadmissible, as they did not meet the procedural conditions provided for by law. The decisions are final and are communicated to the Central Electoral Bureau,” the Constitutional Court said in a statement, without providing details on the reasons for rejecting the appeals.
The Central Electoral Bureau officially announced on Saturday that it has not yet ruled on the registration or non-registration of Călin Georgescu’s candidacy: “The Central Electoral Bureau for the election of the President of Romania in 2025 (BEC) informs the public that it will rule on the registration or rejection of the registration of a candidacy within 48 hours of its submission, in accordance with the provisions of art. 29 para. (2) of Law no. 370/2004, republished, with subsequent amendments and completions.”
If Georgescu clears that final hurdle, he will be the candidate representing anti-globalist forces in Romania’s upcoming presidential election in May.
