During a visit to the Tourism Fair in Belgrade on Wednesday, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić reiterated his country’s stance on the war in Ukraine. Serbia wants peace, he told reporters, and that Ukraine is a friendly country to us.
The Serbian President addressed the massive pressure his country faces from the United States and the European Union to impose sanctions on Russia. “What would be the problem with Serbia’s behavior except that it does not want to show hostile behavior towards the Russian Federation, either,” Vučić said. “We want peace, that is Serbia’s wish and that is Serbia’s policy and it has been and will remain.”
He told reporters that he recently had a long meeting with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister in New York. “We have nothing against Ukraine, on the contrary, we stand in solidarity with the people,” the Serbian President added, pointing to the refugees Serbia has taken in and continues to provide assistance for.
