In an interview on Prima TV, Poet Mircea Dinescu, an icon of the Romanian Revolution of 1989 for appearing on National Television on December 22, 1989 to proclaim the fall of the Ceaușescu regime, said that the former Communist president would win the 2024 presidential election in a landslide if he were alive to run.

"If Ceaușescu were alive, he would have become president next year. Ceaușescu would receive 90%. How do I explain? A normal person, who has a bitter pension or a mediocre salary, is desperate that at the end of the each month. He has to pay his electricity, water, taxes. In the mediocre life during Communism you didnțt have this problem, it was nothing to pay for your electricity or I don’t know what. We created a wild form of capitalism,” Dinescu explained.

“How is it possible that we haven’t solved the pension problem for years? To those people who have worked for 30 years, give them a pension from which they can live without the fear that the day will come when they cannot pay for their electricity and medicine,” Dinescu added.
