In a speech at CPAC on Friday afternoon, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called out Ukrainian dictator Volodomir Zelensky, saying that “President Zelensky actually needs this war, while praising President Donald Trump’s effort to end the bloody conflict. Together with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Fico is one of the only sitting European leaders to embrace Trump’s vision for ending the war.
“The war in Ukraine should have ended long ago,” Fico declared to an enthusiastic CPAC audience. “Ukraine has been the victim of a bad strategy. The limitless financial, military, and political support and anti-Russian sanctions have failed. It is time to stop the senseless killing.”
He went on to say that “No one is disputing that Russia’s use of military force in Ukraine was a violation of international law, but Russia had serious security reasons for doing so because it has long been misled on the issue of NATO enlargement.”
The Slovak Prime Minister said “President Zelensky actually needs this war. When there is war, there cannot be democratic elections. When there is war, it is difficult to investigate where billions in aid and weapons have gone. When there is war, Zelensky knows he has the full backing of the EU.”
Fico also spoke out strongly against the woke ideology that has infected Europe, saying that a regime of censorship is devastating the continent. He harshly criticized European efforts to criminalize free speech, calling out the Orwellian nature of the situation, saying that since the war in Ukraine began, “Whoever spoke of peace was a warmonger. Whoever supported war in Ukraine was a peace maker.”
The Slovak leader affirmed his commitment to supporting fundamental values, including his efforts to enshrine in his country’s constitution that marriage is between a man and a woman and banning LGBT propaganda in schools.
Fico also emphasized the need to protect his nation’s sovereignty against external threats, especially illegal immigration. He is known for his refusal to accept EU-imposed immigration quotas that would change the demographic composition of his country.
Fico also praised efforts by President Trump and Elon Musk to cut funding to USAID, which has worked for years to undermine and destabilize governments around the world. “Europe must resist foreign-funded interference that seeks to control sovereign nations under the disguise of ‘democracy promotion,’” he told the audience. “We must protect our right to choose our future—free from outside pressure.”
