On Saturday, Serbia saw one of the largest protests in the country’s history fueled by student-led protests that began with the collapse of the roof at the train station at Novi Sad that left 15 people dead last fall.
Accusing globalist forces from outside the country of instigating the unrest, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that Serbia will not allow a color revolution, such as a Ukrainian Maidan, to occur in his country.
The Serbian President called for “severe punishment” of those responsible for the collapse of the train station roof, but protesters attribute the tragedy to corruption and nepotism in awarding construction contracts. Many believe that Chinese companies were involved in the shoddy work. The protesters demand that Vučić take responsibility for the tragedy.
Vučić rejected claims that authorities used excessive force during the protests. He dismissed multiple allegations made by protesters as “fabrications” designed to destabilize the country.
“I am proud of how Serbia maintained stability and peace, despite numerous attempts at destabilization,” the President said.
“There have been too many jokes and games about bringing down Serbia,” Vučić declared. “We will guard Serbia and defend it, Serbia will win.”
Estimates of protest participation on Saturday vary significantly. Vučić claimed 88,000 people gathered in Belgrade, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported 107,000. Unofficial estimates range from 275,000 and 325,000 demonstrators.
