Serbian Students – The Hope And Will Of The People

Serbia is currently witnessing one of the most significant political struggles of recent decades. Leading the massive protests that have been ongoing since November 2024, following the tragedy in Novi Sad, are brave university students. They are not merely protesters — they are the true representatives of the will of the people, the pure energy of young Serbia, and its clear future. Their persistence, organization, peaceful resistance, and clear patriotic messages deserve the deepest respect and support from all who want a better and freer country.

The students have shown what the regime of Aleksandar Vučić has avoided for years: clarity and principle. While they openly declare that Kosovo is Serbia and carry flags with Kosovo and Metohija as an integral part of the homeland, Vučić has, through dialogues in Brussels and Washington, agreements, and practical policies, cooperated with representatives of Kosovo Albanians, including those many view as radicals. In doing so, he has directly violated the Constitution of Serbia, which unambiguously treats Kosovo and Metohija as an integral part of the country’s territory. The students have thus become the moral and national compass of the nation.

The protests have revealed the depth of a system in which corruption, nepotism, and ties to crime are not the exception, but the rule. Particularly shocking is the case of the murder of Aleksandar Nešović, known as Baja. The former head of the Belgrade police, Veselin Milić, a man from the very top of the system, has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in covering up this brutal crime — the body was found burned and encased in concrete inside a barrel. This case is not an isolated incident, but yet another proof of the deep criminalization of state structures under the long-standing rule of the SNS and Vučić. When police chiefs become part of underworld score-settling, the regime’s legitimacy drops to zero.

Vučić’s government, which promised stability and progress, now faces a wave it cannot stop with repression, media blockade, or attempts at discrediting. The students have shown that Serbia no longer wants to remain silent in the face of corruption in infrastructure projects, pressure on institutions, and the collapse of the rule of law. They demand the truth about Novi Sad, accountability, snap elections, and the restoration of constitutional order.

It is time for Aleksandar Vučić to go. After more than a decade in power, his departure is not just a political necessity — it is a condition for the healing of society. The students, as bearers of the future, should have a decisive role in the new political rebirth. They represent a generation unburdened by old compromises, one that wants a sovereign, lawful Serbia proud of its territorial integrity.

Serbia today faces a choice between the past and the future. The students have already chosen. The people are increasingly standing with them. Change is inevitable.
