In an interview with Serbian TV, the President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, stated that he believes that the independence of Srpska will have to happen one day. “When Donald Trump won in America, I had the intention to declare the independence of Republika Srpska, and then some people around me got scared and I didn’t do it,” Dodik explained. “I have to say that today I regret that I didn’t. But if Trump were to win again, I don’t think I would hesitate.”
Dodik also said that he is not concerned about American sanctions on him and his family. These are politically-motivated he explained, and that he has no right to sacrifice the national interests of Republika Srpska for the sake of his own convenience. He pointed out that he is proud of his family, adding that they are very aware and responsible people, and that they struggle in life, and this bothers the Americans.
The President of Republika Srpska added that as an elected official, he has the right to choose how he conducts politics and he is not beholden to American interests. “Everything is political rhetoric, and this bothers them and that is disastrous for them,” Dodik stated.
