An extremist Austrian politician and economist named Gunther Fehlinger has called for the removal of a monument in Belgrade dedicated to the memory of the 79 children who died as a result of the illegal NATO bombing of Serbia in 1999.
Fehlinger is an extremist politician who often spews hatred against Serbs and everything Serbian on Twitter. Some have characterized him as a neo-Nazi for his aggressive militarism as he advocates for NATO to control all of Europe, eerily echoing the political objectives of the Third Reich. He condemns anyone who does not agree with his extremist views. Recently, he posted on Twitter, “I call Serbia to join NATO or get fully isolated as Russia proxy pariah, no longer part of Europe.” There is no room for dissent in Fehlinger’s Europe.
Addressing those who do not support the war in Ukraine, Fehlinger writes, “Dear Serb extremist fans of Russia Please do not bet the future of Serbia on a Russia victory Russia is losing and will be dismantled same as Yugoslavia as punishment for this criminal war against Ukraine.” His dangerous calls for regime change and the dismemberment of Russia threaten the stability of Europe.
Fehlinger has shown his complete lack of morality, calling for the desecration of the monument to the 79 children who lost their lives as a result of the NATO bombing that was carried out in violation of the UN Charter. “Serbia, remove this Anti-Nato Memorial,” he cries.
His extremist views do not end with Serbs. He also recently threatened Romania that Austria should continue to block its accession to the Schengen Area unless it recognizes the independence of Kosovo, something that Romania has thus far declined to do. If history has taught us anything, it is that imposing hegemony and intolerance for dissent cannot bring lasting peace to Europe.
