While the Munich Security Conference took place last weekend, with American and European leaders plotting to increase military aid to Ukraine, over 10,000 protestors gathered in the nearby city of Königsplatz to protest the escalation of the war and call for a peaceful settlement to the conflict.

Among the speakers at the event was former Greek Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis who told the crowd what everyone know but was afraid to say. “We are a colony of the United States of America,” he told the protestors.

Varoufakis is a controversial Greek economist and left-wing politician who served as Greece’s finance minister from January to July of 2015, famously negotiating on behalf of the Greek government during its debt crisis. He is a left-wing populist and an outspoken critic of globalism.
