During an Extraordinary Congress held in Tiraspol on Wednesday, the Transnistrian deputies adopted a resolution calling on the Russian Federation to implement “measures to protect Transnistria in the context of the intensification of pressure from Chișinău.” The Assembly was called by the region’s President Vadim Krasnoselsky.

The text of the resolution reads: “During the congress, the deputies from Transnistria decided:

“To send an address to the Council of the Federation and the State Duma of the Russian Federation, requesting the implementation of measures to protect Transnistria in the context of the intensification of pressure from Chisinau, considering the fact that more than 220 thousand Russian citizens permanently live in the region and considering the unique and positive experience of the Russian peacekeeping mission along the Dniester, as well as the guarantor and mediator status in the negotiation process.

“To send an address to the Secretary General of the UN, requesting to take into account the inalienable rights of the Transnistrian people, guaranteed by international norms, to stop the violations of the rights and freedoms of the inhabitants of the left bank of the Dniester and not to allow provocations that lead to the escalation of tensions.

“To send an address to the participants of the international negotiation process in "5+2" format.

“To send an address to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), asking to influence the leadership in Chișinău to return to a proper dialogue within the international negotiation process and ensure conditions for a civilized resolution of the conflict.

“To send an address to the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member States, requesting to avoid the escalation of the situation on the Dniester.

“To send an address to the Parliament of the European Union, asking to make efforts to prevent the pressure from Chisinau and the violation of the rights and freedoms of the inhabitants of Transnistria.

“To send an address to the International Committee of the Red Cross, asking to ensure the conditions for respecting the social and humanitarian rights, interests, and freedoms of all the inhabitants of the left bank of the Dniester."

The Congress also adopted a resolution accusing the Republic of Moldova of starting an economic war against Transnistria, “intentionally creating conditions for the formation of a deficit of millions in the budget. The Republic of Moldova is working to destroy the health system in Transnistria, blocking the supply of medicines and medical devices. Moldova adopted the law on separatism, creating premises for the criminal prosecution of practically every citizen of Transnistria. Transnistrians are discriminated against when crossing the border of the Republic of Moldova.” The document also accuses the government in Chișinău of contravening European principles and violating human rights.

In a statement to the Russian News Agency TASS, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said ȚProtection of the interests of the Transnistrian people, our compatriots, is one of our priorities. Relevant Russian agencies always review all requests carefully.”

Moldova’s former Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Alexandru Flenchea, said that the Extraordinary Congress in Tiraspol was not orchestrated by Moscow. He told Moldovan TV that “If it had been orchestrated by Moscow, the Congress would have been organized at least a week earlier. Vladimir Putin has never positioned himself as a fireman, that is, someone who comes and reacts promptly. He's never positioned himself as someone you put in a request and he responds the next day. It must be a few days, some appearances to be kept. The lack of reaction from Moscow also indicates that it is not Moscow’s project. At the moment, Moscow has no plans for the geopolitical situation here, with us. It’s not an important enough topic for even Zaharova to speak out on, and the released message is clear, that it remains as it is.”
