President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, donned a Make America Great Again hat to congratulate President-elect Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential election and expressed his hope that his new mandate would bring a refreshed vision of the United States’ attitude towards the world and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Dodik emphasized that this is an opportunity for America to show that it respects diversity and to direct its strength towards cooperation and stability, respecting the rights and needs of each people. “For Republika Srpska and me personally, Trump’s victory symbolizes a return to the values we value – the family, freedom of choice and the right to preserve our own traditions,” Dodik said in a statement.
The President of Republika Srpska said that in a world that is changing and in which individuals and states are often asked to forget their roots, in Trump’s leadership he sees the possibility of a different, fairer approach, which will not impose ideas that Americans themselves do not support in their homes.
“I expect that the new US administration will be a partner that understands the importance of stability and supports local leaders to decide for themselves their own future. This is precisely the path to sustainable peace and advancement – that every community has the freedom and the right to develop in accordance with its values and traditions. I look forward to the day when relations between the Republic of Srpska and the United States will be based on sincere respect and common goals,” Dodik remarked.
In honor of Trump’s victory, the Palace of the Republic was illuminated in the colors of the American flag.
In a statement on X, Dodik posted “Donald Trump's victory contributed to the American flag being in the Palace of the Republic again. This is also our victory. This means that we in Srpska will have at least a little more chance to reach the centers of decision-making power from the point of view of our interests. Republika Srpska wanted Donald Trump to win and that happened. The previous administration was unfair to us, it was dysfunctional, and now we expect it to be more objective under the leadership of Trump.”
